When you ask many children what Easter is about, what do you think their answer would be? A lot of them would probably say Easter bunnies, eggs, chocolate, getting their Easter baskets, etc. I would hope that many of our children would say that Easter is about Jesus and His death on the cross for our sins. After all, this is the true meaning of Easter.

Unfortunately, Easter has become about what we can get instead of what we can give and what we have been given by Jesus. Sharing with our children the real meaning of Easter, that Jesus died for their sins and loves them very much, is a hard thing to focus on when we are surrounded by the Easter bunny, chocolate, eggs, and more.

Today I want to share with you some great activities and resources that can help you to teach about the true meaning of Easter for Children.

Teaching about the True Meaning of Easter for Children.

First off, I want to start by saying that I am not condemning the Easter bunny or doing Easter egg hunts or anything else related to Easter. Our daughter will be doing an Easter egg hunt this year and she also usually receives an Easter basket from family. When she gets older we may even dye Easter eggs. However, I don't want those things to be our only or main focus around Easter. Easter is a time to celebrate a Risen Savior who loved us all so much that He came to die for our sins.

Below are some resources I have found to help you teach your children about the God who loves them so much.

Ebooks & DVDs For Teaching About the True Meaning of Easter for Children

This past week I purchased a Sense of the Resurrection by Amanda White. You may recognize her as the author of Truth in The Tinsel, a very popular Advent ebook around Christmas time. We are really enjoying this ebook. There are 12 activities that use all 5 senses to learn about Jesus's death and resurrection.

Sense of the Resurrection - An Easter Experience for Families.

This ebook is an excellent resource for teaching about the true meaning of Easter. Each activity is simple to do and points children to Jesus in everything.

We have been enjoying this book from Tommy Nelson called The Story of Jesus.

My friend Kati is an UsBorne book consultant and I picked up an Easter book from them called The Easter Story. It is currently out of stock, but you can pick up their Illustrated Bible Stories book which includes the Easter story.

Another resource we have enjoyed is Veggie Tales: ‘Twas the night before Easter DVD.

This DVD does not tell the actual story of Easter, but it does talk about how we should put others before ourselves and that Easter is not just about what we can get. It is about what we can give to others as well. We enjoyed watching this with all the lovable Veggie Tales characters.

There is also a Veggietales: A Very Veggie Easter Collection DVD that I plan on checking. I have not watched this one, but so far everything from Veggie Tales I have liked. So just read up on it some before deciding if it is a good fit for your family.
